Rev. Francine L. Hernandez, M.Div., D.Min.
The Rev. Dr. Francine L. Hernandez was born and reared in Columbus, Georgia and received Christ as personal savior in August of 1973. She was called into the gospel ministry in May of 1975, ordained in the Church of God in 1976, and ordained in the Baptist Faith in November 1986.
She is a B.S. (Sociology) graduate of Columbus University and an honors graduate from Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) with a Master of Divinity Degree in Psychology of Religion and Pastoral Care. While studying at ITC, she received the Isaac Clark Preaching Award. Dr. Hernandez is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In 1996 she was inducted into the Theta Phi International Honor Society. She received her Doctor of Ministry degree from the New York Theological Seminary in 2012.
In 1997 she served as a Pastoral Counselor for HIV/AIDS Clients in Miami, Florida and later that year organized New Harvest Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She served as Program Administrator (2003-2007) and interim Director (2006) of Clinical Pastoral Education at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She was the 8th President of the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy and the first woman of color to have such a role. She recently retired as the Clinical Pastoral Educator and Manager for Episcopal Health Services in Far Rockaway, New York.
Dr. Hernandez is a Board Certified Clinical Chaplain/Pastoral Counselor and Diplomate Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor. She is the Coordinator of the National Clinical Seminar-East for the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP). These seminars takes place twice a year, May and November, at the Loyola Retreat Center in Morristown, New Jersey and are designed for chaplains, pastoral counselors, pastoral psychotherapists and ministers.
She is the organizer of the “I’m Just Saying” Women’s Retreat. (www.imjustsayingwomenretreat.com) These retreats are designed to help women reframe and re-author their stories of pain, shame and disappointment. The retreats also empower women to embrace their fullest potential in Christ. She is married to Luis Hernandez and the proud mother of three adult children, Brian, Christi and Jason, and one grandson, Christian. Rev. Hernandez is associate minister of Macedonia Baptist Church in Melbourne, Florida.
